What's different about concreting in Logan
1. Reactive clay
A lot of Logan, especially the established eastern suburbs and the south-west growth areas, sits on clay. Clay swells after rain and shrinks in dry spells. Thin slabs, or slabs without proper edge beams, crack as the ground moves underneath.
Australian Standard AS 2870 sorts residential sites into classes, from A (sand and rock, little movement) through S, M, H1 and H2 to E (extremely reactive). For a house or a large shed, the soil test and engineer set the class and the slab design. For driveways and paths, we use the class to decide thickness, mesh and how often to cut control joints. 2. Acreage driveways
Logan Village, Jimboomba, Park Ridge and the semi-rural edges have long driveways off roads without kerbs. Those jobs are about drainage as much as concrete. Water has to cross or run beside the driveway without undermining it, sometimes through a culvert or a spoon drain. Long runs also need expansion joints and good access for the truck and pump.
3. New-estate covenants
